Google Coupons .. Bad Idea??
Another photographer asked me the other day why I did not have any coupons on my studios google profile. After all people get on there and search for coupons to use at businesses they need services from. So by not having a google coupon I’m losing business to photographers who had coupons for free prints, 50% off sessions fees and all kinds of goodies. When I’m thinking about how I want to market my photography studio, the first thing I ask is “What type of client do I want to target?”
It’s not about how to find photography clients. It’s about finding the right photography clients. What type of potential client is going to base their portrait decision on a coupon? I’ll tell you .. a coupon person .. a penny pincher. Do I want somebody who buys the Sunday paper and spends hours clipping coupons before they go buy a pack of toilet paper and some hamburger helper? No way!!! I want somebody who forgets to thaw anything out for dinner and instead of running to the store and spending a few bucks on hamburger, says “Let’s go out to Red Lobster.” and ends up spending $100 or more for one meal. I want a client who has money to spend and isn’t afraid to spend it.
Coupon cutters are honestly just a huge pain in the ass. You tell them how things work and then they try to haggle you .. Can you do this? Can you do that? I want this .. no wait I want something different .. ok nevermind I want what I originally wanted. Can you cut me a deal on that? You can’t … Ok let me start over then … I want this instead .. and on and on …
So ask yourself .. “Do I want clients who can throw down some serious cash or do I want somebody who took the time to actually print out a coupon that they found on the internet and bring it in to save a buck?”
