Photography Marketing
Will Twitter Get You Clients?
Twitter can be an excellent tool for internet marketing but how affective is it at marketing photography online? If you keep up on the latest trends in marketing, you will hear everybody talking about twitter. It’s the latest buzz. This is the reason why so many photographers are now promoting their twitter accounts on their studio websites. Join my Twitter !! Join my Twitter !! A lot of portrait photographers go so far as to build live twitter update feeds directly into their websites and blogs. Then they spend a great deal of time on Twitter, making little tweets about this and that and mostly things that a client would never care about.
Now I always recommend giving something a shot because you can’t figure out what marketing techniques work without trying a bunch that don’t. However, I didn’t have too high of hopes when I began experimenting with it during the winter. Here’s what I’ve found to date. Twitter ain’t cool for kids.
I asked a bunch of random upcoming seniors if they had a Twitter account and how often they posted tweets. I had some seniors flat out not know what it was. Some thought twitter was for businesses (and old people). Needless to say the “Do you Twitter?” poll turned up a big fat 100% NO !!!
Ahhhh but do their parents do the Twitter? Targeting the parents, especially Mom, is just as important. Ummmm actually, very very few said they used it and the ones who did said they didn’t use it even a fraction as much as Facebook.
You never know. Trends are different all over the country. What’s not cool here might be awesome where you live. However, if you have been spending a lot of time trying to Twitter in some new clients or get the buzz out and not getting any profitable return on your investment … you might be wasting your time. The point is, you got to give ideas a chance, even if they might not work. However, you also need to do your research ahead of time. Determine how to best prioritize your time and money. Most importantly, know when to back off a idea that’s not working and kick the ones that are into high gear.
